Clinical Immersion Courses

Lapco support delegates who wish to attend a Clinical Immersion Course can attend either of the courses which are run by our NTP Trainers at either Bradford, or at The Pelican Centre, Basingstoke, subject to course availability. The Clinical Immersion Courses provide an opportunity to intensify training, and are particularly popular with NTP Trainees who are either at the start of their training, or wish to consolidate some intermitent training, or use as a refresher as they head towards sign off from the National Training Programme. Laparoscopic Colorectal Clinical Immersion Courses at Bradford

Consultant Surgeon and NTP Trainer Mr John Griffith runs a number of Immersion Courses throughout the year at Bradford Royal Infirmary. The course is open to Consultant Colorectal Surgeons who are looking to establish or expand their lap colorectal practice in their hospitals. Each course is for 3 days, and it is designed for four individual surgeons.

The delegate will get the opportunity to operate on suitable lap colorectal cases, under the supervision of John Griffith. This will be backed up by short lecture sessions to teach and reinforce the techniques required in this surgery. In addition, the course will accept one key theatre nurse/sister from the surgeons team, and one anaesthetist.

Cost	The course is supported by industry sponsorship and course delegate costs are £300 per delegate. Registered NTP Trainees are able to have their delegate cost funded by Lapco up to March 2012.

Laparoscopic Colorectal Clinical Immersion Courses at Frimley and Basingstoke
A 4 day course with 4 delegates and 2 laparoscopic colorectal procedures per day. Each delegate directly observes each case, holds the camera for one and actually performs one case. There are two 4 day courses held each year in May and October, although further dates to be confirmed.

Convenors: NTP Trainers and Consultant Surgeons Mr Tom Cecil and Mr Mark Gudgeon
Four days of intensive surgical experience suitable for consultant colorectal surgeons with some previous laparoscopic experience. Each day you will either participate in operations alongside experienced surgeons or watch operations via high definition links into teaching rooms at Basingstoke, Guildford (in May) or Frimley (in September). There are course lectures and course DVDs provided. This course is very small (maximum of 4 delegates) and has been proved to build confidence and experience for consultants interested in extending their laparoscopic experience. All feedback from previous courses has been very positive.

All registered trainees on the National Training Programme have access to a fully funded course place. Places are available to non-NTP interests, subject to availablity, and a course rate will be charged.
